SSU was 25-26 in 2009 and 20-25 in 2008. Fifth-year head coach Carlton Hardy, who took over for Jamie Rigdon, guided the Tigers to winning seasons in 2007 (31-23) and 2006 (30-19). North Carolina A&T (28-24), a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, beat SSU, 8-6, on Friday. The Aggies were led Saturday by Xavier Macklin, who was 2-for-5 in the first game with a home run and four RBIs. In the second game, Macklin was 3-for-3 with a home run, triple, double and five RBIs. SSU starter Joseph Jackson earned the loss in the first game. Jackson gave up a walk and six earned runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings without a strikeout. The Tigers' top hitters were Jonathan Ross (3-for-4, RBI, two doubles), Joseph McCrary (2-for-4, double) and John Arnold (1-for-3, double). In the second game, SSU starter Mark Sherrod earned the loss. Sherrod struck out three, walked three and allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. The Tigers' top hitters were Arnold (2-for-3, triple), Dexter Kelley (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Matt Nowacki (2-for-4, double, RBI).
